When Walter's Pharmacy opened its doors, Malcolm Gross was Allentown's mayor and Franklin Roosevelt, then in the White House, was concerned with the rising cost of living.

At the time, Drene Shampoo was selling for 49 cents; Alka-Seltzer tablets, 24 cents and chocolate covered cherries, 19 cents for a one pound box. Room-size rugs were going for $23 at Hess Brothers; Sears, Roebuck and Co. was selling blankets for 51 cents.
That was in 1937. At that time, Walter's was at 13th and Hamilton streets and employed two people.

Today, Walter's is located in the Allentown Medical Center at 401 N 17th Street, Allentown, and has a staff of 20 with 3 pharmacists, 8 registered pharmacy technicians and 3 delivery men.

Walter's carries brand name and generic health-care products along with a large inventory of prescription drugs. Walter's is a compounding pharmacy and also carries medical equipment and ostomy supplies. All insurance plans are welcome. Walter's offers delivery service six days a week.
